DJ Name: DJ Ayeee G

On stage I go by DJ Ayeee G, but I honestly don’t even like that name too much I just had to come up with something to put on flyers for gigs. My favorite genre of music is Hip-Hop and Rap, especially Bay Area music; I love the bay’s music scene and always try to push that music in my sets. As a far as my style when I’m DJing, I would say its a combination of smooth and aggressive. I love making song transitions that people don’t even notice, but I also love making transitions that are really surprising and cause people to look at the DJ booth like “Damn who’s the DJ”. At the end of the day, I just love rocking crowds - it’s like a drug to me seeing people have the time of their lives while I’m DJing. This competition will be my first DJ battle ever and I’m really excited because battling is something that I’ve wanted to get into so I can’t wait to show what I’ve got for everyone.

How and why did you start DJ-ing?

There’s a bunch of reasons as to why I started DJing, but they aren't all that interesting so I’ll just focus on how I started. I started becoming a fan of DJing around my junior year of high school but I never really thought about being a DJ myself until my freshman year of college when I went to a house party. When I got to the party, I started to walk around and I ended up finding the DJ in the back corner. This was the first time I had ever seen a DJ mixing up close and that may not sound like a big deal, but from that point, actually seeing a DJ mix and not just hearing a DJ, I just fell in love with DJing. I introduced myself to the DJ at the party, told him I was a big fan of DJing and he asked if I wanted to mix a couple of songs. Of course, I said yes and tried mixing and absolutely failed at it, but I just remember it being so much fun even though I was trash and wanting to learn how to be good at it. So for the rest of the night, I just stood right next to the DJ watching what he was doing, mentally taking notes, and I completely forgot that I was even at a party. And the day after, I did a bunch of research on how to get started as a DJ and ended buying my first DJ controller off one of my friends and that's basically when my DJing career began.

How long have you been a DJ?

I have been DJing for about 2 years now.

If you could spend a day with a famous DJ, who would it be?

J.Espinosa - J is my biggest inspiration when it comes to DJing. He does it all - he rock clubs, he battles, he’s on the radio, he DJs for the Raiders. Oh and he’s also from the bay, and I’m from the bay, and everyone knows that the bay loves the bay. To me, J’s creativity is straight up unreal, it’s what sets him apart from the crowd as far as I’m concerned. My dream would be to work with J on a mix together because his jumpoff mixes on SoundCloud are what got me started into making my own mixes.
